Babymoon to Thailand

Babymoon to Thailand

After I passed my ‘pretty tough’ first tri-semester period of my pregnancy, my husband and I decided that we needed a holiday, a babymoon trip for us. At first we wanted to go to Vietnam, because we’ve never been there, but we dropped that idea because the destination is pretty far from Bali. Besides, I was craving for Thai food. So, the destination for our babymoon was Thailand!

Our trip started on March 23rd when I was 20 weeks pregnant. We had a stopover in Singapore first, because my husband needed a Social Visa to stay longer in Indonesia. We contacted an agent to submit the application for us there and the process took only one day. We met him in the morning around 10 AM and could get the visa in the afternoon at 4PM. In the morning before we went there, we had breakfast first in the Mongkok Dim Sum restaurant close to our hotel. Mama needs an energy booster to start the day :). I ordered dim sum and my husband ordered fried rice. The taste was not bad, but their portion of the fried rice was HUGE!

After having breakfast we went to the agent’s office and gave my husband’s passport to him. While waiting until 4PM we decided to explore Singapore a bit.

Our first destination was the Merlion Statue. I went to Singapore many times but this was the first time I went there. I was lucky this time because it was open for public, where it was under construction every time I went there before.

The next destination was Bugis Street. Nothing much we could see there. We passed the market and decided going to Little India to have lunch there. We went to Komalas Vila Restaurant in the Serangoon Road. This restaurant has been serving Indian vegetarian cuisines since 1947. The taste of the food was really good and the portion was also big. I recommend this restaurant especially for vegetarians who love to eat Indian cuisine in Singapore.

After that it was time to go to Bangkok for our ‘real’ babymoon. Our flight was in the evening from Changi International Airport and took for about 2,5 hours. In Bangkok, we stayed in the Avani Riverside Hotel for three nights. We had a pretty busy and exhausting day in Singapore and we passed out pretty fast after we arrived in the hotel.

In the morning, we woke up with a fresh mind and body and were ready to explore Bangkok. The Avani Riverside Hotel has a great panoramic view over the Chao Phraya river and Bangkok’s skyscrapers. On the top floor they have a nice infinity pool overlooking the city.

One of my favorite things of our babymoon was relaxing by the pool and enjoying the view of Bangkok.

Ok, I have a question for you: What are the reasons you are travelling to Bangkok? For me, the answer is only one, FOOD! Thai food is one of my favorites. I always love to eat it. Before we flew to Bangkok, I made a list of what kind of food to eat and which restaurants to visit.

On the first day we had Thai Boat Noodles for breakfast at the Saphan Taksin BTS Station. We had to take a boat to get there, which was provided by the hotel. The boat leaves every 20 minutes from the pier in front of the Anantara Riverside Resort and passes the Chao Phraya River.

When we arrived at the Saphan Taksin BTS Station, it took a while for us to find the place. It’s not a restaurant but more likely a stall under the bridge of the station. I had never eaten Thai Boat Noodles before so I can’t tell if this one is the best one in Bangkok or not. However the taste was good, rich of flavor and spicy.

After our breakfast we went to the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Not much has changed there since I’ve been there in 2013. It’s still a big and crowded market full of everything you can think of. We bought some clothes there and (of course) some food.

Our next destination was the Wat Pho Temple which has a giant reclining Buddha statue inside the temple. It’s one of the largest temple complexes in the city and also a great place to get a traditional Thai massage. When entering the temple, we should take our shoes off and put it in a plastic bag. Inside it was quiet and calm and I saw some of the locals praying in the front of the reclining Buddha. I gave a small donation and exchanged it with a bowl of coins to put those into the 180 prayer bowls. It is meant to bring good luck.

We still had one more destination after Wat Pho and that was Khao San Road. It’s a short road in the center of Bangkok and famously described as backpacker’s heaven. Along the road we could see a lot of sellers of clothes, food, handicrafts and food hawkers of barbecued insects. If you want to take a photo of the insects you should pay 10 Baht, but we didn’t do that.

On our second day in Bangkok we went to the MBK Center and Siam Paragon to buy some souvenirs for our family. There was a bazaar in front of the MBK Center when we went there and that’s where we had our lunch.

Feeling tired of walking around all day, we took a taxi to the famous Pad Thai Restaurant in Bangkok called Thip Samai. This is a must thing to do when you are travelling to Bangkok, eating Pad Thai there. When we arrived the line was already pretty long even though the restaurant hadn’t even opened yet. But the waiting really pays off when you put the first bite in your mouth. So delicious!

Our stomachs were full and it was time to go back to our hotel. We had a great time on our second day in Bangkok, but the next morning we would be heading to Krabi.

Due to bad weather our flight from the Don Mueang Airport to Krabi had almost two hours delay. The flight to Krabi takes for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, so we arrived in the afternoon. We would be staying in Ao Nang for two nights. On the first day we were just walking around and looking for information for the island hopping trip the next day. Both of us had a Thai massage and that was really relaxing. Afterwards we had dinner in the really famous Thai restaurant called Ton Ma Yom. The restaurant is not big, but their food is spectacular. We ordered a lot and all of it was great. On our way back to our hotel we stopped buy at Häagen-Dasz for ice creams.

My husband booked an island hopping trip to Hong Island, because that trip uses a longtail boat instead of a speedboat, which was safer for me and the baby. We visited five islands and all of them were really beautiful. The beaches with the white sand and clear waters with tall big rocks in the background makes you wanna stay there longer, but unfortunately we couldn’t. The weather was nice in the morning until noon, but after arriving at the last island it started raining pretty heavy. On the way back to Ao Nang the waves on the sea got pretty high because of that.

The day after that we checked out from our hotel, because our time in Krabi was over and it was time to go back to Bangkok again. We stayed one night in Bangkok before we were flying back to Bali. Because our flight was really early the next morning, we stayed at the Amari Don Mueang Airport Hotel. We arrived in Bangkok in the afternoon and as soon as we checked in, we went to Thip Samai again for dinner. We couldn’t resist to eat that legendary Pad Thai one more time before we left.

Our babymoon was really great. I had an awesome time to spend together with my husband before our baby is coming. After this, we still had our second babymoon in Bali! Keep following my stories here.
