Our Honeymoon to the Maldives

Honeymoon Maldives

The 12th of November 2016 was a really joyful day for me and my husband Alfons, because on that day we spoke our wedding vows before God and in the front of our family and friends. We held the wedding ceremony and party in Wyl’s Kitchen at the Veranda Hotel in Jakarta, because most of my family lives in this city. Alfons’ family and his best friend’s family flew over from the Netherlands to Indonesia to celebrate this beautiful moment with us. The party was really intimate with family and close friends and we had a really great time. Coming from a big family, a wedding is also a nice moment to catch up with family members I didn’t see for a while.

Our wedding

The day after our wedding party we had to wake up pretty early, because we were going on a honeymoon to the Maldives! After the hectic months of preparing our wedding, we thought we deserved a honeymoon like that. We flew to the Maldives with Tiger Airways and had a layover in Singapore for a couple of hours before heading to Malé. In Singapore we took the MRT to the Marina Bay where we had lunch and took some photos of the view there. Our flight was in the afternoon and we arrived in the Maldives around 9pm. We went to our hotel near the airport right away, because the next morning we would wake up at 5am to take our seaplane to our resort called Sun Aqua Vilu Reef.

Seaplanes in the Maldives

One of these seaplanes brought us to the resort.

The views from the seaplane were beautiful. We could see a lot of small islands and atolls with the blue and turquoise colors from above.

The flight from Malé to the resort took about 45 minutes and when we arrived we got a warm welcome from the resort’s staff with a lei and coconut water. After we enjoyed our welcome drink a staff member brought us to our villa. We spent the first two nights in one of the beach villas and the last night we slept in a water villa with a private pool.

Another night we stayed in a water villa with a private swimming pool.

I love this direct access to the sea from our water villa.

So, we spent four days and three nights in this resort. It is built on a small island and we could walk around the whole island in about 30 minutes. However, there’re a lot of activities you can do here. I had a one hour Balinese massage in their spa which was a really good treatment to revitalize my mind and energy after our wedding. Meanwhile my husband went diving near smaller islands in the area.

Stingrays in the Maldives

Every afternoon before sunset time, the staff will feed the stingrays which come to the coast. It was really nice to see these huge fishes from up close.

One of my favorite activities in the afternoon is waiting for the sunset.

We also did a lot of snorkeling here. Around the island there are a couple of great places to go snorkeling with really clear water and lots of beautiful fishes and corals.

We had a wonderful time in the Maldives, no doubt! We shared unforgettable moments together in this paradise. Four days seemed too short for us, but we had to go back to Jakarta for our second wedding party. If someday we have a chance to come back to the Maldives, we will for sure.
